The International Society of Obstetric Medicine wishes to invite all who care about medical problems in pregnancy to “Medicine and Pregnancy 2008” (MAP 2008) on September 21-22, 2008 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington DC.
The first international scientific meeting of the International Society of Obstetric Medicine was held in Fremantle, Australia, in 2003, and the Washington meeting will be its fourth. It will be conjoined with the scientific meetings of the International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy and of the North American Society of Obstetric Medicine.
Medical disorders are major contributors to maternal morbidity and mortality, both in the developed and the developing world. ISOM is dedicated to fruitful interaction between different craft groups to improve the management of medical problems in pregnancy for the benefit of mother and baby. This collaborative care shines as an example of interdisciplinary cooperation in medicine.
An international workshop at the conference will deal with the problem of maternal mortality in the developing world. The workshop will formulate an action plan with the aim of reducing mortality. Many other aspects of medicine in pregnancy will feature in the program with lectures and presentations of original research.
MAP 2008 will be the first ISOM Scientific Meeting to be held in North America. It will provide a forum at which those concerned with the medical complications of pregnancy may gather together to converse and interact with similarly motivated people for the purpose of improving the lot of pregnant women throughout the world.
This will be an enjoyable and productive meeting, with stimulating interchange of ideas, experience and plans for the future.
